The Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary is another popular tourist attraction in Srinagar. Covering an extensive area of about 141 sq. km, the sanctuary was declared as a National Park in 1951. It is home to the endangered species of red deer known as the Hangul. Travelers can also sight leopards, the black and brown bear, musk deer, and numerous migratory birds here. The vast Dal Lake and River Jhelum with the Shikaras look like dolphins peeping out to see the world. Innumerable gardens like Mughal Garden, Nishat, Shalimar, are feast for the eye with the variety of flora. Plenty of activities to do which include the joy of rowing in a Shikara, hours together in Dal Lake, the spic and span Hazratbal Mosque, the only one of its kind architecturally in Kashmir and then the shopping centre.
The Tulip garden covers over 75 acres has tulip flowers grown in Sirag garden near Dal Lake. Here the Tulip flowers are grown in a series of rows, each row with a different color of Tulips. In this Tulip garden, a total sum of 12 lakh Tulip flowers is present, with the Tulip flowers in 60 different colors. It attracts many tourists every year with its mesmerizing beauty. This Tulip garden of Srinagar is Asia’s largest garden and the second largest in the World.
