Srinagar

Srinagar, popularly known as ‘Venice of the East’, is situated in the beautiful valley of Kashmir. Located on the banks of the River Jhelum, the City is situated around beautiful lakes, houseboats and snowy tree forested mountain slopes, with one on the most pleasant climates in all of Indian Subcontinent. The summer paradise for many of the great rulers of antiquity, Srinagar lays claim to many wonderful opportunities for exploration and relaxation, such as hiking in the unique destinations scattered around the fabled valley, or reading a lovely novel while resting in an ornate floating palace. Srinagar and the Kashmir Valley is a dream adventure for those of an open mind. The coolness around, the beauty of Srinagar from the hills is enchanting. The Mughal Gardens such as Nishat Bagh, Shalimar Bagh, Achabal Bagh, Cheshma Shahi, and Pari Mahal are the famous attracting tourists in a large number from all across the world. These gardens add to the natural beauty of this city. The lakes in and around Srinagar such as the Dal Lake, Nagin Lake, Anchar Lake, and Manasbal Lake are some of the other popular tourist spots.

The Dal Lake is the second largest lake in the valley of Kashmir and is popularly known as the ‘Jewel in the crown of Kashmir’. It is located in the backdrop of the beautiful Himalayas. Srinagar is also known for its Houseboats and Shikara or wooden boat rides, which are available on the edges of the lakes. Tourists can enjoy the beautiful environment while riding on the Shikaras.

The Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary is another popular tourist attraction in Srinagar. Covering an extensive area of about 141 sq. km, the sanctuary was declared as a National Park in 1951. It is home to the endangered species of red deer known as the Hangul. Travelers can also sight leopards, the black and brown bear, musk deer, and numerous migratory birds here. The vast Dal Lake and River Jhelum with the Shikaras look like dolphins peeping out to see the world. Innumerable gardens like Mughal Garden, Nishat, Shalimar, are feast for the eye with the variety of flora. Plenty of activities to do which include the joy of rowing in a Shikara, hours together in Dal Lake, the spic and span Hazratbal Mosque, the only one of its kind architecturally in Kashmir and then the shopping centre.

The Tulip garden covers over 75 acres has tulip flowers grown in Sirag garden near Dal Lake. Here the Tulip flowers are grown in a series of rows, each row with a different color of Tulips. In this Tulip garden, a total sum of 12 lakh Tulip flowers is present, with the Tulip flowers in 60 different colors. It attracts many tourists every year with its mesmerizing beauty. This Tulip garden of Srinagar is Asia’s largest garden and the second largest in the World.
